Bill Bailey

Bill Bailey is a much-loved English stand-up comedian and musician, who is widely known for his wacky humour and appearances on the likes of Never Mind the Buzzcocks, QI and Black Books.

Born in Bath in 1964 as Mark Bailey, he was a studious child who was often top of his class academically, but learning became less important to Bill after he discovered performing. In his mid-teens Bill joined a school band, Behind Closed Doors, and he fell in love with entertaining people.

Despite the distraction of all this, Bill sat his Music A level and achieved an A grade. His new name 'Bill' was adopted as a result of his exceptional guitar rendition of the popular song, Won't You Come Home Bill Bailey.

One of Bill's greatest loves is Star Trek and when his son was born in 2003 he was named Dax after a character in Deep Space Nine. Bill often refers to himself as a Klingon!

Bill's nomination for the 1996 Perrier Award brought him to the attention of the BBC, who gave him his own show a couple of years later - Is It Bill Bailey?.

Bill Bailey has a UK arena tour planned for late 2011, with a new show entitled Dandelion Mind.
