
Formerly the Southampton town hall, the Guildhall is now a popular entertainment and function venue. Construction to the building began in 1934 and was completed three years later and officially opened by the 17th Earl of Derby. The Guildhall is part of the Civic Centre of Southampton along with the police offices, art gallery, library and council offices. The Guildhall consists of three separate venues, the Guildhall, Solent Suite and a lecture theatre. The Guildhall has a capacity of around 1,750, the Solent Suite, 250 and the lecture theatre can host 118.
The Guildhall underwent a long overdue and extensive refurbishment in 1989 making it Southampton's largest multipurpose venue. It has been host to Pink Floyd, Kaiser Chiefs, The Killers and Amy Winehouse.
